Watch The Moment ASUU Called Off Its 1 Month Strike


After over one month of strike, the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU, has officially suspended the strike conditionally. ASUU said it was suspending the strike till end of October for government to fulfill its pledges. The union directed university lecturers to resume duty from Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

The suspension of the strike was announced on Monday evening after a meeting with the government delegation. At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige.

ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike on August 13, following government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the union in 2009

A 19-year-old Kika Onyibe, a Law student at Birmingham University, UK, passed away on Wednesday, April 12th, during a surgery for ruptured appendix in a Lagos hospital. According to her boyfriend, Emmanuel Ayoola, she had traveled to Nigeria from the UK to receive treatment for what she thought was an infection but ended up being a ruptured appendix. It was later gathered that Kika died due to complications from the surgery.
